Boot fitting

Boot Fitting Specialists

At McMaster Sports we are committed to fitting you with a boot that's not just footwear, but an integral component of your skiing and snowboarding experience. We believe that boot fitting is a partnership that involves you, and the specialist who you've entrusted with the job. Let us fit you into a new pair of ski or snowboard boots, or bring in your current boots and we will assess any issues with them and offer our advice

The Science of Boot Fitting

When fitting you with a ski or snow boarding boot, our specialists will take you through a number of time-tested steps in order to ensure that you are being fit into the proper model and size boot to suit your needs. Remember that purchasing a pair of new boots is not a two minute process, so allow yourself an ample amount of time to ensure the best possible fit. Boot fitting is an art form, come see for yourself.

Whether it be a new or used pair of boots, call us at 905-523-8880 to make an appointment for any custom work and come in for an assessment and estimate. We offer trim-to-fit insoles as well as custom insoles. Boot punching and expansion, heel lifts and butterflys are part of our repertoire.

Quality tuning

services How often should you tune your skis\board?

How often you tune your skis and boards depends on snow conditions, the terrain and your level of performance.

McMaster Sports recommends a tuning:

-before your first day out on the snow.
-after about six days on the slopes.
-at the end of the season.

Major base or edge damages should be checked daily and always repaired immediately!

Why settle for an inferior tune-up??

Even the best ski or board base won't last forever. Ice and rocks scratch the base and damage the edges. The ski or the board's capacity to turn and glide is enormously reduced, you have to use more strength and you tire out faster.

With excellent tuning, the performance of your ski/ board can even be adjusted to your skiing or boarding skills. Inform the service technician which skiing/ riding style you prefer, which terrain you like best and what other problems you have. In that way, the technician can adapt the tuning perfectly to your style!
Professional tuning with WINTERSTEIGER technology gets your skis and board back up to snuff!

The five basic steps in ski / board tuning are:

Inspection
The top, base and edges are wiped clean in order to remove dirt. Then the ski / board is inspected for any damage.

Base Repair
Next, any nicks, gouges, or core shots are repaired and filled with base repair material.

Base grinding
The entire base is now run through the stone grinder. In doing so, tiny cuts are ground off and the base becomes true and flat. Now the base is able to absorb wax and the structures created are an important aid in gliding.

Edge grinding
Regardless of the performance that you expect from your sporting equipment most ski and board edges are "beveled" between 0 and 2 degrees: a continuous smooth surface is created.

Waxing
The last step in tuning is hot waxing. Hot wax impregnates the base, protects against damage and improves the gliding and turning properties of skis and boards.

McMaster Sports Demo Program

We encourage you to try before you buy. The demo program is for skiers who want to try a new model of ski. Our innovative products and program must be working, because many participants end up buying the skis they try on the hill.

Here is how McMaster's demo offer works:

1.If you want to try a ski or boot, call McMaster Sports at 523-8880 weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  A customer service representative will then take your "Skier Profile" and ask you which ski you would like to try.

2.You can then select a date and site at which a McMaster demo day is taking place. The demo team will take care of ensuring your requested skis are available and properly fitted to you.

3.You can try as many pairs as you like and order your new skis directly from the demo team.
